BP Petronas Acetyls Sdn. Bhd. is a joint venture between BP and Petronas. Using BP’s proprietary Cativa catalyst process technology in the continuous carbonylation of methanol, they produce approximately 500,000 tonnes per annum of acetic acid. The use of Cativa catalyst technology results in significant capital and operational savings over conventional technology.
